The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids on the residences of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged Rs 6,000 crore Mahadev betting app case. Official sources have not yet disclosed the specific details regarding the purpose of the searches.

The CBI teams targeted Baghel’s properties in Raipur and Bhilai, as well as the residences of a senior police officer and a close associate of the former Congress leader. A statement from Baghel's office confirmed that the ex-CM was scheduled to attend a meeting at the Congress Headquarters in Delhi on the day of the raids.

This move follows recent action by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which carried out raids at 14 locations in Durg district, Chhattisgarh, as part of its investigation into a large-scale liquor scam tied to money laundering. Among the locations searched were properties connected to Bhupesh Baghel, including his son Chaitanya Baghel’s residence, as well as the premises of his close associate, Laxmi Narayan Bansal, also known as Pappu Bansal.

The liquor scam has reportedly led to a loss of around Rs 2,161 crore to the state exchequer, with illicit funds allegedly funneled through fraudulent activities. The ED has suggested that Chaitanya Baghel may have been one of the recipients of these unlawful proceeds.
