Kolkata Police have recovered CCTV footage showing a 24-year-old law student being dragged into South Calcutta Law College moments before she was allegedly gangraped by senior students and a former student on campus.

The incident took place on June 25 inside the college premises in Kasba, Kolkata. In the video, two accused can be seen forcibly pulling the woman from the college gate to the guard’s room, where the assault reportedly occurred.

“The CCTV footage confirms the girl’s allegations,” an investigating officer said. “It shows the movements of the three accused, the security guard, and the victim. We are currently examining the footage.”

According to police, the survivor, a student at South Calcutta Law College, was raped after rejecting a marriage proposal from the main accused, Manojit Mishra, an alumnus. She had reportedly told Mishra she was in a committed relationship and would not betray her partner.

The survivor filed her complaint on June 26, following which Kolkata Police arrested four individuals — Manojit Mishra, current students Promit Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed, and the college guard. Mishra is accused of raping the student while the other two allegedly recorded the assault to blackmail her.

Investigators are probing whether the attack was premeditated. On Saturday, the woman was taken to the campus for a crime scene reconstruction. A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an assistant commissioner is handling the investigation.

The survivor’s medical report has confirmed gangrape, citing evidence of forceful penetration, bite marks, and nail scratches.

The case has sparked public outrage and political controversy. Mishra is linked to the Trinamool Congress’s youth wing, though party leaders have stated he will face legal consequences without any protection. The incident has also triggered clashes between the ruling TMC and the BJP, as well as internal discord within the TMC over remarks made by some of its members.

Protests and demands for swift justice continue to intensify as police pursue further evidence in the case.
