The Centre on Sunday expressed readiness to discuss Operation Sindoor and US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire mediation claim between India and Pakistan during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The announcement came during an all-party meeting convened ahead of the session, which begins Monday.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government is prepared to engage in debates on any issue of national significance. “We are open to discussing important issues such as Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack. These are matters of great national interest, and the government will never shy away from a discussion,” Rijiju stated after the meeting.

Operation Sindoor marks India’s direct military response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The operation and its implications were high on the agenda for several Opposition parties, including the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Left parties, NCP(SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT), all of whom pressed for a dedicated debate in Parliament.

In a notable development, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, who is part of the ruling NDA, also supported holding discussions on the operation, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

Speaking on behalf of the Congress, Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally address the nation through Parliament on both Operation Sindoor and Trump’s controversial statements. “The Pahalgam attack and the security lapses behind it are serious matters. Comments made by the US President raise questions on India's dignity and the bravery of our armed forces,” Gogoi said.

He further noted that the Opposition would also seek answers from the government on the ongoing voter roll drive in Bihar.

The Monsoon Session is expected to be a high-stakes political battleground, with both national security and electoral issues at the forefront of debate.
