In a shocking revelation, Meghalaya police have uncovered a disturbing murder plot involving a newlywed woman who allegedly orchestrated her husband's killing during their honeymoon. The victim, Raja Raghuvanshi, was murdered by hired killers at Weisawdong Falls, after three earlier failed attempts on his life.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged boyfriend Raja Kushwaha, hired three men to eliminate Raja during their honeymoon trip. The chilling details came to light during a press briefing on the case.
"Raja Raghuvanshi was killed in the fourth attempt,” SP Syiem said. “Their first attempt was in Guwahati, followed by two failed efforts in Sohra, before they finally succeeded in Weisawdong.”
According to police, the killers had reached Guwahati on May 19, ahead of the couple’s arrival. The original plan was to murder Raja there and dispose of the body, but logistical challenges and a change in travel plans led to the scheme being delayed.
“The killers and Sonam couldn’t find a suitable location in Guwahati. They then considered killing him in Nongriat but couldn’t find a place to dispose of the body. Another opportunity came between Mawlakhiat and Weisawdong when Raja went to the washroom, but that too didn’t work out,” said SP Syiem.
Eventually, the conspirators succeeded at Weisawdong Falls, a scenic location that tragically became the site of the gruesome crime.
The couple had traveled to Kamakhya temple in Guwahati shortly after their wedding, which was when the murder plot was set in motion. However, Sonam’s decision to visit Shillong and Sohra caused multiple delays in executing the plan.
Police have since arrested the wife, her alleged lover, and the three contract killers. The investigation continues, with authorities piecing together the sequence of events that led to one of the most cold-blooded murders in recent times.
