National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as the 15th Vice-President of India, defeating the Opposition INDIA bloc candidate B. Sudershan Reddy by a comfortable margin. Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, while Reddy received 300. Out of 781 Members of Parliament eligible to vote, 769 cast their ballots, while 12 abstained.

Radhakrishnan has been serving as the Governor of Maharashtra since July 2024, stepping into the national spotlight after Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation in July 2025.

Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. A long-time member of the RSS, he rose through the BJP ranks, serving as Tamil Nadu BJP state president (2004–2007) and also as the Governor of Jharkhand for 18 months. Off the political field, he was once a college champion in table tennis and a long-distance runner.

As Vice-President, Radhakrishnan will preside over the Rajya Sabha and step in as acting President if required. His five-year tenure will largely be ceremonial, yet vital for ensuring parliamentary order and constitutional continuity.
