A man allegedly killed his two differently-abled children before hanging himself in Silvassa, Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, after his wife left him recently, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Sunil Bhakare (56), strangled his children — 18-year-old Jay and 10-year-old Arya — with a rope before ending his life at his rented home in the Samaravarni locality on Friday afternoon, according to Silvassa police station sub-inspector Anil TK.
“Prima facie, it seems the man poisoned his two children before strangling them. His wife had left about two weeks ago, leaving him solely responsible for their care, which may have pushed him to this drastic step,” the officer said.
The family, originally from Raigad near Mumbai, had been living in Silvassa for the past two decades. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway, police added.
