A 40-year-old daily wage labourer was arrested in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur on Sunday for allegedly stabbing his 10-year-old son to death after the child insisted on going outside to play in the rain. The incident took place in the family’s one-room rented home in Mohan Block, where the man lived with his four children following the death of his wife.
According to police, the boy—third among the siblings—repeatedly asked to go out despite his father’s objections. In a sudden outburst of anger, the father allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the child in the left rib. The attack occurred in front of the other siblings, who witnessed the horrifying scene.
The father then rushed the injured boy to Dada Dev Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The hospital informed police around 1:30 pm, triggering an immediate investigation. Officers recovered the knife from the residence.
During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime and was taken into custody. Police have registered a case of murder and are speaking to the other children to understand more about the incident. The identities of the accused and victim are being withheld to protect the surviving minors.
The case has sparked concern about the emotional strain on single parents and highlighted the urgent need for mental health and social support services for vulnerable families. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic killing.
