Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, recently appointed by the Centre to lead one of seven multi-party delegations for international outreach following Operation Sindoor, has said he sees “no politics” in accepting the role. Invited by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju due to his strong foreign policy credentials, Tharoor said he “immediately agreed” to the assignment, stressing that the national interest must rise above party lines during times of crisis.
Tharoor also noted he was unaware of the Congress party's list of recommended names—which did not include him—and remarked that any such matter was strictly between the party and the Centre. When asked if he felt overlooked by the Congress leadership, he simply stated, “I know my worth.” He underscored the importance of political unity in the face of national threats, adding, “Speaking in one voice and standing together is good for the country.”
Tharoor’s delegation is set to visit the US, Panama, Guyana, Colombia, and Brazil to advocate India’s stance on terrorism and highlight the threat posed by state-sponsored actors, particularly from Pakistan.
