The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has levied a fine of Rs 102 crore on Kannada film actress Ranya Rao in connection with a gold smuggling case, officials said on Tuesday.
In addition, hotelier Tarun Kondaraju was fined Rs 63 crore, while jewellers Sahil Sakaria Jain and Bharat Kumar Jain were each penalised Rs 56 crore.
DRI officials visited Bengaluru Central Jail to serve the accused with detailed notices comprising 250 pages, accompanied by a 2,500-page annexure. “It was a herculean exercise to prepare a detailed notice along with supporting documents. Today we served 11,000 pages of documents to the accused,” a DRI source told PTI.
The fines come as part of the ongoing investigation into a major gold smuggling network that has drawn national attention.
