The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at the office of prominent businessman and film producer Gokulam Gopalan on the morning of Friday, April 4. The search operation took place at the office of his financial institution in Kodambakkam, Chennai.
According to sources, the raid was carried out by an ED team from Kerala, though further details about the investigation remain undisclosed at this time.
Gokulam Gopalan, known for his involvement in the Malayalam film industry, is one of the producers of the highly controversial blockbuster L2: Empuraan, which stars Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film had sparked significant debate and controversy after its release, particularly due to a dispute with Lyca Productions, which Gopalan helped resolve. He also publicly mentioned in interviews that he had requested the removal of certain scenes from the film amid mounting controversies.
While authorities have not confirmed whether the raid is related to his business dealings or his role in film production, the operation has drawn considerable attention due to the ongoing discussions surrounding Empuraan.
This raid follows a previous interrogation of Gopalan by the ED in April 2023, where he was questioned at the ED’s Kochi office for several hours. At that time, reports indicated that the interrogation was connected to an investigation by the Income Tax Department.
