A trivial dispute over a matchbox during a late-night drinking session led to the death of an elderly man in Mainpuri, police said. The victim, 60-year-old Chob Singh, was allegedly struck on the head with an iron rod by Santosh, aided by Kallan, after an argument turned violent on Tuesday night. Singh’s body was recovered the next morning with severe injuries near Gauhana and Naya Nagla villages.

Police quickly arrested the two accused, who have since confessed. SP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha confirmed the arrests, calling it a case of a minor quarrel spiralling into murder.
