Experts Say Covid-19 Now Milder, No Need for Panic Despite Rising Cases

In recent times, we have seen a sudden rise in Covid-19 cases across many states in India. However, according to experts, Covid-19 is becoming milder over time. While occasional surges in cases are expected, scientists emphasize that there is no cause for alarm. Experts say the virus is now endemic, meaning it will continue to exist in the population at manageable levels, much like other common respiratory illnesses. These periodic spikes are attributed to factors such as waning immunity and seasonal changes, especially during temperature extremes when people tend to spend more time in enclosed, air-conditioned spaces where viruses spread more easily.

COVID Now Milder Than Flu

Dr. Chandrakant Lahariya, a global health expert, reassured the public by stating, “With every passing year, COVID-19 is causing milder infections. It is now just another respiratory illness and less dangerous than the flu. We can forget COVID-19 as a special case. It is not a cause for concern,” he told PTI.

Experts also note that population-wide immunity, gained through vaccination and previous infections—has significantly reduced the severity of illness for most people. However, they still advise caution for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. These individuals should remain vigilant, stay up to date with booster vaccinations, and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms.
