FBI Labels Boulder Mall Attack a 'Terror Incident'; Suspect Detained After Pro-Israel Rally Assault
Published on

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is treating a violent assault near a mall in Boulder, Colorado, as a “targeted terror attack” after a man allegedly hurled Molotov cocktails at a pro-Israel demonstration, injuring at least six people.

The incident occurred outside Pearl Street Mall, a popular pedestrian area in downtown Boulder, where activists from the volunteer group Run For Their Lives had gathered to raise awareness about Israeli hostages still held in Gaza.

Authorities identified Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, as the suspect. Video footage circulating online shows Soliman—shirtless, wearing jeans and sunglasses—shouting "Free Palestine" and "End Zionists... they are terrorists" as he appeared to wield a makeshift flamethrower at the demonstrators.

Though no formal charges were announced immediately, officials emphasized that they plan to hold Soliman “fully accountable.” Boulder police said he was detained without incident and treated for minor injuries. Investigators have not publicly commented on Soliman’s motive, citing the early stage of the investigation.

The FBI is leading the probe and confirmed it is being handled as a terror-related case. In a statement, the U.S. Department of Justice condemned the assault as a “needless act of violence” amid a broader surge in antisemitic attacks across the United States following the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Political figures have already begun weighing in. Right-wing commentator and MAGA figure Laura Loomer claimed on social media that Soliman is "not a Colorado man" and called for his deportation, though law enforcement has not confirmed any details about the suspect’s immigration status.

This attack follows closely on the heels of another high-profile incident in Washington, D.C., where an assailant fatally shot two staffers at the Israeli embassy, reportedly shouting, “I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza.”

As tensions continue to rise globally over the war in Gaza, authorities in the U.S. are warning of potential increases in ideologically driven violence, particularly targeting Jewish communities.
