A French tourist has alleged that she was raped in Udaipur, Rajasthan, after being lured to a rented apartment by a man she met at a party, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The woman had arrived in Udaipur from Delhi on June 22 and was staying at a hotel in the Ambamata area. On Monday evening, she attended a party at The Greek Farm Cafe and Restro near Tiger Hill, where she met the accused, identified as Siddharth, an employee of an event management company.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Siddharth engaged the woman in conversation during the party, inviting her to step out for a smoke and later offering to show her around the city. Despite her repeated requests to return to her hotel, the accused allegedly took her to his rented flat in the Sukher locality. With her phone battery drained, the tourist was unable to call for assistance.
At the apartment, the man allegedly made unwanted advances and, upon her refusal, forced himself on her. Following the assault, the woman sought medical attention at a private hospital, where she is currently in stable condition. Hospital authorities informed the police, and the survivor later filed a formal complaint from the hospital.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Badgaon police station in Udaipur. The accused is currently absconding, and multiple police teams have been deployed to track him down.
Officials have notified the French embassy, and necessary consular support is being provided to the survivor. The investigation is ongoing.
