G7 Urges India and Pakistan to De-escalate Military Conflict, Calls for Dialogue
Published on

The Group of Seven (G7) nations on Saturday urged India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint and pursue immediate de-escalation of their ongoing military conflict through direct diplomatic engagement. The appeal comes as tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors continue to intensify, drawing global concern.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the High Representative of the European Union strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and warned against further military escalation.

“Further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability,” the G7 foreign ministers said. “We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides.”

The statement emphasized the importance of restraint and diplomacy, with the G7 offering support for a “swift and lasting diplomatic resolution” to the crisis. The group underscored that continued hostilities risk exacerbating tensions in an already fragile region and urged both countries to avoid actions that could inflame the situation further.

The appeal follows weeks of cross-border conflict, including drone attacks, airspace restrictions, and retaliatory strikes that have led to civilian and military casualties. International observers have warned of the potential for the conflict to spiral into a larger confrontation if not contained.

The G7’s call is being seen as a significant diplomatic push to steer the two nations toward a peaceful resolution. Analysts suggest the involvement of global powers could add pressure on both New Delhi and Islamabad to open channels for dialogue, despite the strained atmosphere.

India has yet to issue an official response to the G7 statement.
