With the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning on Monday, the Central government has agreed to hold a debate on Operation Sindoor, following demands raised by the Opposition.

However, a decision is still pending on whether a discussion will be allowed on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls currently underway in poll-bound Bihar.

The Monsoon Session will run from July 21 to August 21.

On Saturday, the INDIA bloc held a virtual meeting with participation from 24 of its constituent parties. The alliance reached a consensus on eight major issues to be raised during the session. These include the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, the ceasefire announcement by US President Donald Trump, concerns regarding India’s foreign policy, and the Election Commission’s revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Senior Opposition Leaders Chart Joint Strategy

Leaders who attended the virtual meeting included Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, K C Venugopal, and Jairam Ramesh (Congress); Ram Gopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party); Abhishek Banerjee (TMC); Uddhav Thackeray and Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena UBT); Sharad Pawar and Jayant Patil (NCP-SP); and Omar Abdullah (National Conference).

Also present were Hemant Soren (JMM), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Tiruchi Siva (DMK), along with D Raja (CPI), M A Baby (CPI-M), and Dipankar Bhattacharya (CPI-ML Liberation). This session marks the first since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 25 tourists and a local ponywallah lost their lives. In retaliation, Indian armed forces carried out Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps across the border in Pakistan.

The upcoming debate is expected to be one of the key highlights of the session, as both the government and Opposition prepare to address national security and foreign policy concerns on the Parliament floor.
