As the monsoon season continues to batter North India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued severe weather alerts across the region. Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad, is under a heavy rainfall warning, while Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand face red alerts for extremely heavy rainfall, flash floods, and potential landslides throughout September.

Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir remain on orange alert for heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to order closures of schools, colleges, and offices, with work-from-home arrangements recommended. Chandigarh schools will remain closed on Tuesday, and Jammu & Kashmir has instructed institutions to shift to online classes wherever possible.

Residents in Gurugram have faced traffic snarls and waterlogging due to intermittent heavy rains, resulting in a seven-kilometre-long jam. The city recorded over 100 mm of rainfall in just four hours from 3 PM to 7 PM on Monday, prompting an orange alert from the IMD and advisories from the District Disaster Management Authority.

In Delhi, flood warnings have been issued as the Yamuna river crosses the danger mark, with evacuation efforts underway in low-lying areas. Jammu’s hilly terrain also faces landslide risks, leading to school closures.

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will visit flood-affected districts from September 2 to 4, covering Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Sri Anandpur Sahib to assess damage and coordinate relief measures.

With continuous rainfall expected, North Indian states are on high alert, urging citizens to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel.
