In Varanasi, a Class 12 student has reported that she was gang-raped by more than 20 men between March 29 and April 4. The young woman, who is preparing for admission into a sports program, was reportedly missing since March 29. A friend had taken her to a hookah bar located in the Pishachmochan area, where the alleged incident began.

According to police reports, the girl stated that she was served a drugged cold drink at the hookah bar, after which multiple men transported her to various hotels in the Sigra area of the city and sexually assaulted her. Some of the alleged perpetrators were familiar to her, being former classmates or individuals she had met through social media.

The girl's family filed a missing person report on April 4, and she was located the same day. At that time, neither she nor her family reported any sexual assault. However, on April 6, they submitted a formal complaint at the Lalpur police station, leading to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR). The police have named 23 men in the FIR, with 11 of them remaining unidentified. So far, six individuals have been detained for questioning.

Authorities are also interviewing staff members of the hookah bar and reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to corroborate the girl's account and identify those involved. DCP Chandra Kant Meena of Varuna Zone stated that the girl had initially left with a friend, and the investigation is still in progress. He also emphasized that, contrary to some media reports, the girl is not a minor.
