Abhay Singh, popularly known as 'IIT Baba,' lodged a police complaint asserting that a group of individuals dressed in saffron invaded the newsroom, behaved inappropriately, and assaulted him with sticks. This incident reportedly occurred during a news debate on a private channel in Noida, following his rise to prominence during the recently concluded Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. In his complaint, Singh detailed that the group not only misbehaved but also physically attacked him. Subsequently, he organized a protest outside the police outpost in Sector 126. However, he later decided to retract his protest after discussions with the police. Bhupendra Singh, the station house officer of Sector 126, confirmed that he had persuaded Singh to refrain from pursuing a formal complaint.
Videos of the incident, which have gained significant attention on social media platform X, depict ‘IIT Baba’ engaged in a conversation when a group of sadhus enters the studio, resulting in a dispute. As the situation intensifies, IIT Baba makes an attempt to exit the studio. Nevertheless, the precise reason for the confrontation remains ambiguous.
Baba Abhay Singh, who holds a degree in aerospace engineering from IIT Bombay, describes his transition into spirituality not as a deliberate choice but as an overwhelming inclination that guided him towards devotion and service. Abhay Singh reflected on how his engineering education influenced his worldview. He noted that his studies in aerospace engineering sharpened his logical reasoning and cognitive skills. However, he emphasized that while science enhances intellectual capacity, art cultivates emotional intelligence, both of which are vital for achieving a well-rounded life.
He holds the view that every field, ranging from art to philosophy, is intertwined with the journey of self-discovery, commitment, and a profound relationship with the divine. Reflecting on his varied career trajectory prior to his spiritual awakening, he remarked, “I engaged in numerous professions. My most recent role involved designing applications and websites. Prior to that, I was involved in travel photography and participated in a government-sponsored initiative, which included documenting Indian arts, crafts, and history. I traveled extensively, capturing the essence of ancient temples and various painting techniques. Additionally, I contributed to magazines and the film industry, creating fictional films.”
In discussing the Maha Kumbh, Baba Abhay Singh commended the available facilities, stating, “The amenities here are excellent. I believe this experience should extend beyond spirituality; it is essential for international scientists and ISRO researchers to visit and explore the relationship between spirituality and their academic pursuits. My journey towards knowledge has guided me here. There is a transformation that occurs within individuals. This is one reason many are drawn to spirituality; they seek answers to questions about alleviating anxiety and escaping stress, yet it is equally important to remain connected to one’s roots.”
