The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for parts of Delhi and NCR on Thursday, warning of moderate rains, thunderstorms, and lightning in South West Delhi, South East Delhi, South Delhi, and New Delhi until 6 pm.
A yellow alert has been sounded for the remaining areas of the Capital, signalling light rainfall and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, neighbouring NCR regions including Faridabad, Gurugram, Jhajjar, Karnal, Panipat, and Sonipat are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next few hours, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.
The downpour comes amid days of incessant rainfall, which has pushed the Yamuna River above the 207-metre danger mark for the fifth time since 1963.
