Ind vs Pak: Air defence systems stop Pakistani raids in Jammu, blackouts across the city
Published on

In a major escalation following India's strikes on terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Pakistan launched a series of coordinated attacks on Thursday evening targeting over a dozen locations in Jammu, including the civil airport and military areas. The attacks involved artillery shelling, drones, and missile strikes. Eight surface-to-surface missiles were launched but were successfully intercepted mid-air by India’s S-400 air defence system, preventing any casualties or damage.

The situation remained tense as Pakistani drones were also downed near Jammu University, and shelling was reported in several regions including Kupwara, Udhampur, and Pathankot. Air raid sirens and blackouts were initiated in sensitive zones like Akhnoor and Kishtwar, and internet and power services were suspended in Jammu city as a precaution. Strikes later extended to Srinagar, prompting a swift and effective response from Indian defence systems.

The Line of Control saw intense firing from the Pakistani side, affecting areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Uri. In one such unprovoked attack, linked to Pakistan’s retaliation against Operation Sindoor, at least 13 civilians and a soldier were killed. The escalation extended beyond Jammu and Kashmir, as Pakistani drones were also intercepted over Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, triggering air defence responses and visible explosions in the night sky.
