India has accused Pakistan of launching coordinated drone and missile attacks on three of its military bases, escalating already tense relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. According to Indian military officials, the attacks targeted bases in Jammu and Udhampur in Indian-administered Kashmir, as well as in Pathankot, located in the northern state of Punjab.
The Indian Army stated it successfully foiled the alleged attacks, which occurred late Wednesday night and into Thursday. While explosions were reported in Jammu city Thursday evening, resulting in a temporary blackout, no major damage or casualties have been reported so far.
Tensions have spiked since the deadly 22 April terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. Initially, India withheld attribution, but on 7 May it formally accused the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba of orchestrating the assault. Indian police have further claimed that two of the assailants were Pakistani nationals—an allegation strongly denied by Islamabad.
India has since conducted airstrikes on Pakistani territory under Operation Sindoor, targeting suspected terror hubs and Pakistan’s air defense infrastructure.
The situation remains volatile, with both sides trading accusations and vowing to defend their national interests. Global observers have urged restraint to avoid further escalation in the already sensitive South Asian region.
