In a surprising move ahead of the upcoming domestic cricket season, India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to leave Mumbai and join Goa. The 23-year-old's decision to switch teams has raised eyebrows in the cricketing world, with sources within the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirming that Jaiswal requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) on Tuesday.
According to the MCA source, Jaiswal cited personal reasons for his move to Goa in his email. Goa Cricket Association (GCA) officials have also confirmed the development. GCA secretary Shamba Naik Dessai told Sportstar, "We have spoken to him, and he will play for Goa in the coming season. The paperwork is yet to be completed, but we have agreed to bring him on board."
While Jaiswal’s experience is expected to be a valuable asset to Goa’s squad, Dessai added that discussions regarding his potential role, including the captaincy, are still ongoing. “We haven’t decided yet whether he will be the captain. There’s still time, and once the paperwork is done, we will discuss this internally,” Dessai said.
Jaiswal’s decision to switch states is unexpected, particularly after Goa’s recent promotion to the Elite Group in domestic cricket. His move follows a pattern set by players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who previously moved to Goa before returning to Mumbai.
Jaiswal last played for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir in January, where he scored 30 runs. However, he withdrew from the team’s semifinal clash against Vidarbha, citing ankle pain. His move to Goa marks a significant shift in his domestic career, and fans will be eagerly awaiting his performances in the coming season.
