India to supply majority of iPhones for US market in June quarter, says Apple CEO Tim Cook

Apple CEO Tim Cook has announced that, for the April–June 2025 quarter, the majority of iPhones sold in the United States will be manufactured in India. This marks a big milestone in Apple’s global supply chain strategy, as it is the first time India will serve as the primary source of iPhones for the US market within a single quarter.

Cook explained that the shift is driven by both economic and strategic factors, including lower reciprocal tariffs on Indian-made products compared to those from China and Vietnam. The move also aligns with Apple’s efforts to mitigate the impact of ongoing US tariffs on Chinese imports, which could otherwise add up to $900 million to Apple’s costs this quarter. Since March 2025, Apple has rapidly increased exports from India, with six cargo jets carrying around 1.5 million iPhones to the US.

While China remains Apple’s main manufacturing hub for products sold outside the US and still accounts for the majority of global iPhone production, India’s role is expanding rapidly. Industry reports suggest that Apple aims to shift all iPhone production for the US market to India by 2026. However, Cook clarified that his current statement only applies to the June 2025 quarter and does not constitute future guidance.
