An Indian-origin man and US green card holder, Paramjit Singh, has been detained for over a month at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport over what his lawyer describes as a “very old case.” Singh, who migrated to the US three decades ago and runs a business in Indiana, suffers from a brain tumour and heart condition. His lawyer alleges that the Department of Homeland Security is prolonging his detention using “unethical tactics” despite a court granting him bond. Singh’s family says his health deteriorated in custody, forcing an emergency hospital visit they were not informed about. The case is now headed to federal court.
