A 30-year-old Indian software engineer from Telangana was fatally shot by police in California after allegedly stabbing his roommate earlier this month. His family, however, has alleged racial discrimination and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.
The deceased, identified as Mohammed Nizamuddin from Mahabubnagar, was shot on September 3 inside his residence in Santa Clara. According to police, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing incident.
When officers entered the residence, they found Nizamuddin armed with a knife and pinning down his injured roommate. The roommate had sustained multiple stab wounds. Police said the situation escalated, leading to an “officer-involved shooting.”
Nizamuddin was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, while the injured roommate is currently receiving treatment.
While officials maintain the shooting was a necessary response, Nizamuddin’s family has demanded an impartial probe, alleging that racial bias may have influenced the police action.
