Indore has once again been named the cleanest city in India, marking its eighth consecutive win in the government’s annual cleanliness survey. Surat and Navi Mumbai followed in second and third places respectively in the national rankings.
In the 3–10 lakh population category, Noida emerged as the cleanest city, with Chandigarh and Mysuru securing the next two spots.
The results were announced at the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards. The event was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
Now in its ninth edition, Swachh Survekshan evaluated over 4,500 cities using a structured framework comprising 10 parameters and 54 indicators. These metrics assessed aspects such as sanitation, waste management, and urban service delivery.
The government emphasized that the primary objective of the Swachh Survekshan mission is to encourage citizen participation and foster greater awareness around collective efforts to improve urban living standards. The 2024–25 survey followed a “smart, structured approach” to measure cleanliness and civic performance across urban India.
