Israel Ends 12-Day War with Iran After U.S.-Brokered Ceasefire; Both Sides Accused of Truce Violations

Israel has officially concluded its 12-day conflict with Iran, declaring that all key military objectives were accomplished. According to Israeli officials, the campaign succeeded in neutralizing what they called a "dual existential threat" posed by Iran’s nuclear weapons development and ballistic missile program.

The ceasefire, mediated by the United States, was confirmed by President Donald Trump, who announced that Israel would stand down and military aircraft would return home. "Israel is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly 'plane wave' to Iran. Nobody will be hurt. The ceasefire is in effect," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.

However, tensions remained high as Trump later criticized both Iran and Israel for violating the truce. Speaking to reporters at the White House, he expressed frustration over the renewed violence. “They’ve been fighting for so long and so hard that they don’t even know what they’re doing,” he said. “I’m not happy with either of them. But I’m especially unhappy if Israel continues launching attacks after we reached a deal.”

According to Trump, Israel had launched an intense bombing campaign shortly after the ceasefire was declared. Following a phone conversation between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli government announced that it had halted further strikes.

"Following President Trump's conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu, Israel refrained from further strikes," a statement from the Israeli PM’s office confirmed.

Trump outlined the ceasefire timeline, stating that Iran would begin observing the truce first, followed by Israel 12 hours later, leading to a formal end to the conflict at the 24-hour mark.

Despite the agreement, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz accused Iran of breaching the ceasefire and said he had ordered the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to retaliate with targeted strikes on key regime sites in Tehran.

As both sides exchange blame over the fragile ceasefire’s early breaches, international observers remain cautious about the truce’s durability. Efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and avoid further escalation in the already volatile region.
