Israeli Airstrike in Yemen: Reports Claim Houthi PM Ahmed al-Rahawi Killed in Sanaa

The Iran-aligned Houthi movement in Yemen has reportedly suffered a major blow after an Israeli airstrike in Sanaa allegedly killed their prime minister, Ahmed al-Rahawi. Yemeni outlets Al-Jumhuriya and Aden Al-Ghad claimed al-Rahawi died in the strike, which also killed several of his aides. Israel has not officially confirmed the reports.

On Friday (Aug 29), the Israeli Defence Forces confirmed conducting a precision airstrike on a Houthi military facility near Sanaa, hours after intercepting two drones. Defence Minister Israel Katz, who cleared the mission alongside PM Benjamin Netanyahu and top commanders, hinted at high-level targets by invoking the biblical “plague of the firstborn.”

The Houthis rejected the reports, insisting Israel struck civilian infrastructure and accusing it of committing a “war crime.” The strike follows recent Houthi missile attacks on southern Israel, which were intercepted by Israeli defence systems.
