A 20-year-old woman has alleged that she was gang-raped by two of her acquaintances on her birthday in Kolkata’s Regent Park area, police said on Sunday.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday night when the survivor, a resident of Haridevpur, was taken by her friend Chandan Malik to the flat of another acquaintance, identified only as Deep, who is said to be a government employee.

According to police sources, the woman claimed the two men invited her to celebrate her birthday at Deep’s residence. After sharing a meal, the accused allegedly prevented her from leaving, locked the doors, and sexually assaulted her.

The survivor managed to escape around 10:30 am on Saturday and returned home, where she informed her family about the ordeal. A complaint was then lodged with the police, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the law.

“The accused are currently absconding. A search operation has been initiated to trace them,” a police officer confirmed.

Police investigations are underway, and efforts to track down the two suspects continue.
