The visarjan of Mumbai’s most revered Ganesh idol, Lalbaugcha Raja, faced unexpected delays at Girgaon Chowpatty on Anant Chaturdashi 2025. The 50-foot idol reached the venue early in the morning, but immersion was halted for nearly two hours due to high tide and mechanical issues.
Organizers reported that the specially designed trolley carrying the idol got stuck while attempting to place it on the raft. The rough sea caused the raft to sway, making it unsafe to proceed with immersion. As a precaution, the idol’s ornaments were being removed and devotees performed the final aarti while waiting for the tide to subside.
Other idols, including Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani, were successfully immersed earlier in the day. At Girgaon, however, the delay did little to dampen the atmosphere as thousands of devotees continued chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya,” awaiting Lalbaugcha Raja’s grand farewell.
Officials confirmed that the immersion will be carried out later in the day once conditions improve, ensuring a safe conclusion to one of Mumbai’s biggest festive highlights.
