A 39-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly pushing a woman in front of a speeding goods train at Diva railway station in Thane district. The woman, who is yet to be identified, died on the spot.
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the incident occurred on platform number 5, where the accused, Rajan Singh, a resident of Diva and reportedly employed as a driver, got into a heated argument with the woman. The altercation quickly escalated, ending in tragedy when Singh allegedly shoved her onto the tracks just as a fast-moving goods train was passing through.
Following the incident, Singh attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by a vigilant GRP constable.
Police officials revealed that preliminary investigations suggest the accused and the victim were strangers. Singh also allegedly misbehaved with the woman before the fatal incident. Authorities are continuing their probe to establish the motive behind the attack.
