A gripping video from Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district has gone viral, showing a man dangerously crossing a raging river on a damaged suspension bridge. Shared by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on X, the 45-second clip shows the man clinging to the upper ropes of the broken bridge as powerful floodwaters rush beneath him. With no protective gear, he makes the perilous journey, underscoring the severe risks locals face during the monsoon season.

“Arunachal Pradesh receives the heaviest monsoon rains in the world,” Rijiju wrote, urging caution and assuring that the government will provide necessary support.

Rijiju, who represents West Arunachal Pradesh in the Lok Sabha, also announced that a humanitarian and disaster relief mission has been launched. The Indian Air Force, along with central armed forces, the NDRF, and state authorities, are working together to assist affected regions in the Northeast.

Since May 30, heavy rainfall and landslides have claimed at least nine lives across Arunachal Pradesh. In East Kameng district, seven people—including two women and two children—were killed when a landslide swept their vehicle off National Highway-13 between Bana and Seppa. In another incident in Lower Subansiri district, two labourers died and two were rescued after a landslide struck a cabbage farm near Pine Grove.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced ₹4 lakh in compensation for the families of each victim and pledged continued support. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also reviewed the situation, speaking with the chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, as well as the Governor of Manipur.
