Manish Tewari Hits Back at Trump: India May Eat Less, But Won’t Bend to China

Congress leader Manish Tewari has strongly rebutted US President Donald Trump’s claim that India has been “lost to deepest, darkest China.” Tewari stressed that India’s stance is guided by self-respect and dignity, not trade compulsions or tariff pressures.

“India will eat one roti less but never succumb to strong-arming,” Tewari said, recalling the country’s historical struggles against colonial powers. He underlined that even global superpowers like the United States cannot expect India to bend under external pressure.

Trump, posting on Truth Social, had shared an image from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Alongside the image, Trump remarked: “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!”

His comments were echoed by former US trade advisor Peter Navarro, who accused India of profiting from discounted Russian oil while American workers suffered under tariff regimes.
