Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Two More Held in MP for Aiding Key Accused Sonam Raghuvanshi

The investigation into the sensational Meghalaya honeymoon murder case has led to two more arrests in Madhya Pradesh, bringing the total number of accused in custody to seven. The two men are alleged to have aided Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, shortly after the crime.

According to police sources, one of the arrested men, Silome James—a property broker in Indore—allegedly helped Sonam conceal a box containing valuables, a laptop, and potentially a weapon believed to belong to her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. The box, authorities said, was later destroyed.

James was apprehended on Saturday evening at Bhonrasa toll-gate in Dewas district while attempting to flee to Bhopal. He was reportedly the lessee of a building at Heera Bagh Colony in Indore where Sonam stayed after fleeing Meghalaya. “She had stored jewellery and other items from the crime scene at this location,” said Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district.

The second suspect, Balvir Ahirwar, a watchman and carpenter, was arrested early Sunday morning from his native village in Ashok Nagar district. He had reportedly been posted at the same Indore flat where Sonam sought refuge. “Shillong police took him for questioning in connection with the flat where Sonam had stayed,” said Ashoknagar SP Vineet Kumar Jain.

Both suspects were produced before an Indore court and remanded to the transit custody of Meghalaya Police for seven days, confirmed Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya.

During interrogation, James reportedly led the special investigation team (SIT) to a location where he admitted to burning the contents of the concealed box. However, investigators found no trace of the suspected weapon, jewellery, or laptop at the site.

The rented flat, police added, had been leased to co-accused Vishal Chauhan for ₹17,000 per month. Chauhan, also in custody, is believed to have facilitated Sonam’s stay in Indore.

The Meghalaya Police continue to pursue leads in what is now one of the most closely watched murder investigations in recent times, involving cross-state efforts and allegations of conspiracy, betrayal, and premeditated violence.
