Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly murdered by his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, may not have been the only target in a deeper plot, claims the victim’s brother.
On Thursday, Sachin Raghuvanshi called for a narco test on the prime accused, Sonam, after a Shillong court remanded her to two more days of police custody. He questioned the progress of the investigation so far, highlighting that Sonam had remained silent on her motive throughout the previous eight days of interrogation.
“In eight days of remand, she didn’t reveal why she killed him. So what will change in two days?” Sachin asked, speaking to media. “My appeal to the government is to conduct a narco test. There may be more people involved in this case.”
The case took a chilling turn after Raja and Sonam were reported missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. On June 2, Raja’s body was discovered in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji), in the East Khasi Hills district. A week later, Sonam resurfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, over 1,200 km away from the crime scene, and surrendered to the police on June 9.
According to Meghalaya Police, Sonam allegedly conspired with her lover Raj Kushwaha to murder her husband. The plot included hiring three accomplices — Akash Thakur, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Chauhan — all of whom are friends, with one reportedly being Raj’s cousin.
Investigations into the murder-for-hire scheme are ongoing, and police say more arrests may follow as they explore the wider network of those involved.
