Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated four out of five packages of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and phases three and four of the Dwarka Expressway, projects set to transform road connectivity across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). For Noida residents travelling to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, the development promises a game-changing cut in travel time—bringing the journey down to just 20 minutes.

Until now, commuters heading to the airport from Noida faced long detours through DND Flyway, Ashram Chowk, AIIMS, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-48—routes notorious for traffic snarls and unpredictable delays. The new infrastructure provides a direct, signal-free drive, bypassing central Delhi and eliminating choke points, ensuring quicker and stress-free travel.

UER-II

UER-II spans 75.71 km, built at a cost of ₹6,445 crore, of which INR 3,300 crore went into construction. Of its total length, 54.21 km lie in Delhi and 21.5 km in Haryana. Connecting Mahipalpur near the airport with Alipur in North Delhi, it directly links to NH-44. Once fully operational, UER-II will provide seamless connectivity between Gurugram, west and south Delhi, NH-44, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir—while bypassing heavy-traffic corridors like Dhaula Kuan and the Ring Road.

Dwarka expressway features

Phases three and four, inaugurated on Sunday, include a 10.1 km stretch in Delhi. Notably, this includes a 5.1 km tunnel linking directly to IGI Airport, also improving access to Gurugram. Earlier in March 2024, phases one and two were opened, covering 29 km in Haryana between Mahipalpur and Kherki Daula on NH-48.

broader connectivity and sustainability

UER-II will eventually link to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, benefiting traffic from Haryana and Rajasthan. Additionally, a 65 km highway from Tronica City to the under-construction FNG Expressway is being developed, tying together five NCR expressways: Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Meerut, Noida-Greater Noida, DND-Faridabad, and Yamuna. The project also embraces eco-friendly practices, having used about 1 million metric tons of inert material from biomined landfill waste in Delhi for construction.

At the inauguration in Rohini, Delhi, PM Modi inspected both projects, underscoring how these new corridors mark a new era of NCR mobility—faster, greener, and more efficient.
