NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, speaking to the media after her return from an extended mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS), shared her excitement about reconnecting with her father’s homeland, India. Williams, who returned to Earth on March 19 after a 286-day stay in space aboard the SpaceX Crew 9 Dragon spacecraft, was asked about her views on India from space. She described the country as “amazing” and highlighted the breathtaking views of the Himalayas she witnessed during her mission.
“Every time we went over the Himalayas, we got incredible pictures,” Williams said, describing the sight as a ripple flowing down into India. She also mentioned the vivid colors visible from space, especially as the landscape transitioned into Gujarat and Mumbai, where the network of city lights was striking.
Williams expressed her anticipation about visiting India soon, mentioning her excitement for India’s rapid growth in the space sector and collaboration with private space entities. She also looked forward to India’s involvement in future space missions, including the planned journey of an Indian astronaut with Axiom Mission.
