In a shocking incident in Nimapada town, Puri district, Odisha Police arrested a 43-year-old college lecturer and his associate for allegedly parading his 37-year-old estranged wife and her male companion on the streets over suspected adultery.
Police said the woman, who has a 14-year-old son, had been living separately in a rented accommodation for several years. The lecturer, along with his friend, allegedly barged into her residence on Tuesday night, assaulted her, and humiliated both her and her companion publicly.
The accused claimed his wife was in a relationship with another man. However, both the woman and her companion denied the allegations. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the assault and public shaming, though authorities have not independently verified its authenticity.
Police have registered cases under charges of outraging the modesty of a woman, physical assault, and public humiliation.
