Operation Sindoor: India destroys Pakistan’s air defences after missile barrage

Tensions between India and Pakistan are clearly escalating. In the early hours of 8 May 2025, India responded firmly to Pakistan’s cross-border provocations under the ongoing Operation Sindoor. Following a night of drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan across Northern and Western India, the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes targeting Pakistan’s air defence radars and systems at several strategic locations.

According to the Ministry of Defence, India’s action was a measured, proportionate, and domain-specific response, mirroring the level of aggression demonstrated by Pakistan. The strikes were not designed to escalate tensions but to neutralise threats and reaffirm India's commitment to defending its territory and citizens.

The Pakistani attacks, which spanned areas including Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, and Bhuj, led to significant destruction and the loss of 16 Indian lives, including three women and five children. Indian officials confirmed that debris from these attacks is being recovered across multiple civilian zones, further exposing Pakistan's indiscriminate targeting methods.

India’s strikes focused solely on military infrastructure, including radar stations and missile systems. No civilian targets were engaged.

India also flagged Pakistan’s use of heavy-calibre artillery and mortars along the Line of Control in sectors such as Uri, Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, and Rajouri. The Indian Army responded to this aggression by targeting artillery launch sites and disrupting enemy firepower capabilities.

Despite repeated provocations, India has reiterated its commitment to non-escalation, provided the Pakistani military refrains from further aggression. The Indian government also urged the international community to take note of Pakistan’s unprovoked military activities and misinformation campaigns.
