Outrage in Bengaluru as Rapido Driver Attacks Female Passenger Over Safety Complaint

A disturbing incident in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar has triggered public outrage after a video emerged showing a Rapido bike taxi driver assaulting a woman passenger. The incident took place on Friday, June 13, 2025, when Shreya, a jewellery store employee, booked a Rapido ride from BTM Layout to Jayanagar 3rd Block around 10 a.m. According to her complaint, Shreya confronted the rider, Suhas, for rash driving and alleged traffic violations, including jumping a signal.

A language barrier worsened the situation—Shreya only spoke English, while Suhas communicated in Kannada. The dispute escalated when Shreya reportedly refused to pay the fare or return the company-issued helmet after ending the ride mid-way. A bystander captured the heated exchange on video. The footage, now viral on social media, shows a tense argument between the two as they attempt to involve passersby—none of whom intervened.

The altercation turned violent when Suhas slapped Shreya, causing her to fall. The public’s failure to step in has drawn significant criticism online. Initially reluctant to file a complaint, Shreya eventually approached the police after encouragement from friends and the viral spread of the video. An FIR has been registered against Suhas under sections related to assault and outraging a woman’s modesty. He has been taken into custody for questioning and is expected to be released pending further inquiry, police sources said.
