Pakistan claims it has ‘credible intelligence’ India is set to attack within 36 hours

A lot is going between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, which occurred on April 22 and resulted in the death of 26 civilians. India blamed Pakistan-based militants, particularly those linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, The Resistance Front, for orchestrating the brutal attack.

Also, India has taken a series of strong actions against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of all borders, and the expulsion of Pakistani diplomats. Pakistan, in turn, has retaliated with stricter measures, escalating tensions further.

Recently, Pakistan claimed it had “credible intelligence” suggesting that India is planning military strikes within 24–36 hours as retaliation for the attack. Islamabad rejected India’s accusations of involvement as “baseless” and offered to cooperate in a neutral investigation. Meanwhile, cross-border shelling has intensified along the Line of Control, forcing local residents to reinforce their bunkers in fear of more violence.

What happened after the Pahalgam attack?

India’s actions:

  • Suspended the Indus Waters Treaty

  • Closed all borders between the two nations.

  • Expelled Pakistani diplomats stationed in India.

  • Blamed Pakistan-based TRF militants for the attack, demanding global accountability.

Pakistan’s response:

  • Legal action: Pakistan is preparing to take India to court over the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (Al Jazeera).

  • Wagah Border closure: The main land crossing between the two countries has been shut down.

  • Visa suspension: Visas issued to Indian citizens under the SAARC programme have been suspended.

  • Reduction of Indian High Commission staff: Pakistan has significantly cut down diplomatic staff at the Indian mission in Islamabad.

  • Airspace ban: All Indian aircraft have been banned from entering Pakistani airspace.

  • Trade halt: All trade activities with India have been stopped.

According to reports, the attackers forced victims to recite Islamic verses (kalima) before opening fire, making this one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in Kashmir in recent years.
