Putin Warns Against Global Domination, Highlights Rise of India and China in International Politics
Published on

Russian President Vladimir Putin cautioned against any nation attempting to "dominate" global politics or security while acknowledging the emergence of economic powerhouses such as India and China. Speaking at Beijing's Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Putin emphasized that “from an international law point of view, everyone must have equal rights, and must be in a similar position,” highlighting the need for balance in international relations.

Putin noted that large nations like India and China operate under unique political systems and domestic laws. He warned that attempts to "punish" them could place their leaders in precarious positions, saying, “If one of them shows weakness, his political career will be over.”

Reflecting on history, Putin urged the West to recognize the legacies of colonialism. “Countries have had difficult periods in their history, such as colonialism, attacks on sovereignty for prolonged periods of time. Now that the colonial era is over, they have to realise that they cannot use this tone in speaking with their partners,” he said.

The remarks come amid rising trade and geopolitical tensions. On August 27, the US administration doubled tariffs on India to 50 percent, citing New Delhi’s increasing imports of Russian oil following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as the broader “America First” agenda aimed at reducing trade deficits.

Putin’s comments underscore Russia’s push for a multipolar world order and highlight the growing influence of emerging economies like India and China on the global stage.
