Former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Bengaluru's upscale HSR Layout on Sunday. The 68-year-old retired Indian Police Service officer, a native of Champaran, Bihar, was part of the 1981 IPS batch and held a Master’s degree in Geology.
According to police sources, Om Prakash was allegedly stabbed to death, and initial investigations point to his wife, Pallavi, as the prime suspect. His body was discovered lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor of their three-storey residence. The call reporting the incident was made by Pallavi herself, who, along with their daughter, was present at the time.
However, when police arrived at the scene, Pallavi reportedly refused to open the door, further heightening suspicions. Authorities now believe a domestic dispute may have been the motive. Sources indicate that Prakash had recently expressed intentions to transfer all his properties to his son — a decision that may have led to tension within the household.
Senior police officials promptly arrived at the scene following the report. The body has since been shifted to St John’s Hospital for a postmortem examination. The results are expected to be released on Monday, after which the body will be handed over to the family.
As of now, police have launched an in-depth investigation and have begun questioning Pallavi to uncover the sequence of events leading to the alleged murder. The case has sent shockwaves through both the police fraternity and the public, given Prakash's long-standing service and stature.
Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
