Senior Congress leader ‘not sure’ about the future of INDIA alliance

Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has publicly expressed doubts about the unity and future prospects of the INDIA alliance, stating he is "not sure" if the opposition bloc remains intact and describing its current state as "frayed." Speaking at a book launch event in Delhi, Chidambaram remarked, "The future (of the INDIA bloc) is not so bright... If the alliance is totally intact, I will be very happy. But it seems that it is frayed." He added that there is still time to revive and strengthen the alliance but emphasized the urgent need for coordination among partners.

Chidambaram also highlighted the formidable organizational strength of the BJP, calling it the most well-organized political force in India's history. He warned that the INDIA bloc faces a significant challenge in countering the BJP and must confront it on all fronts. Looking ahead to the 2029 general elections, Chidambaram stressed their critical importance, suggesting they could either entrench the BJP's dominance or restore a "full-fledged democracy" in India.

BJP leaders attack INDIA alliance following Chidambaram’s comments

As expected, the BJP has clearly seized on Chidambaram’s statement to attack the opposition. BJP leaders say that even senior Congress leaders acknowledge the BJP’s strength and predict that the opposition will not remain united in the future.

BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari tweeted, “Even Rahul Gandhi’s close aides know that Congress has no future!”

Former Union Minister and Kerala BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar described the INDIA bloc as a “diverse group” that has come together only because of a “love for corruption.” He said the BJP is a strong party because it believes in strong ‘India First’ values and cares for all Indians, which is why it enjoys majority support.
