The Supreme Court on Monday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by former apex court judge Justice Jasti Chelameswar to conduct a full-scale inquiry into Anant Ambani’s Vantara initiative.
The SIT — comprising Justice Raghavendra Chauhan, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale, and IRS officer Anish Gupta — will examine complaints of environmental, wildlife, and financial violations.
According to the Court, the probe will assess animal procurement practices, compliance with the Wild Life (Protection) Act and CITES norms, veterinary care, environmental concerns, and allegations of wildlife trade and money laundering.
The Central Zoo Authority, CITES Management Authority, Ministry of Environment, and Gujarat’s Forest and Police Departments have been ordered to assist the SIT. The panel is also empowered to widen its scope based on findings.
