The man accused of fatally hitting 114-year-old marathon icon Fauja Singh with his car has been arrested, police confirmed on Wednesday.
Amritpal Singh Dhillon, a 30-year-old non-resident Indian (NRI), was taken into custody two days after the tragic incident occurred on the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway. Singh, affectionately known as the "Turbaned Tornado" for his remarkable marathon feats, was struck while crossing the road near his ancestral village in Punjab’s Jalandhar district.
He sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Authorities also seized a Punjab-registered Toyota Fortuner believed to have been involved in the hit-and-run that took place on Monday, according to official sources.
