Tahawwur Rana Extradition Updates: Security Tightened Outside Patiala House Court Ahead of Court Appearance

Published on

Security has been heightened outside Delhi's Patiala House Court ahead of the expected court appearance of Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Following his extradition from the United States, Rana is likely to be produced before the court on Thursday, according to officials.

Rana was brought to India on a special flight accompanied by a multi-agency Indian team, after the US Supreme Court dismissed his plea seeking an emergency stay on the extradition. He is expected to face trial for his alleged involvement in aiding the terrorists responsible for the 2008 attacks that left over 160 dead.

Delhi Police and other security agencies have deployed additional personnel in and around the Patiala House Court complex, treating Rana as a high-risk detainee. Authorities have also prepared secure facilities, including a high-security cell at Tihar Jail, where he is likely to be lodged following his court appearance.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is handling the case, may seek his custodial interrogation as part of its ongoing probe into the attacks.
