TMC Malda Chief Abdur Rahim Bakshi Sparks Row with Acid Threat Against BJP MLA

Trinamool Congress (TMC) district president Abdur Rahim Bakshi has stirred controversy once again after allegedly threatening to pour acid into the mouth of a BJP legislator.

Bakshi made the remarks on Saturday evening during a protest rally in Malda, organised by the TMC against what it described as “atrocities on Bengali-speaking migrant workers” in other states.

In his fiery speech, Bakshi attacked BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh without naming him, in response to Ghosh’s past comments in the assembly where he allegedly referred to Bengal’s migrant workers as “Rohingyas” or “Bangladeshis.”

“The one who shamelessly says that the 30 lakh migrant workers of Bengal working outside are not Bengalis but Rohingyas and Bangladeshis... If I hear this again, I will burn your voice to ashes with acid inside your mouth. We Bengalis will not give you space to speak,” Bakshi warned from the stage.

He further urged supporters to “tear down BJP flags” and enforce a social boycott of the party in Malda district.

The comments sparked an immediate backlash from the BJP, which accused the ruling TMC of promoting intimidation and violence. Khagen Murmu, BJP MP from Malda Uttar, said the threats reflected the TMC’s growing desperation ahead of state elections.

The controversy has added to the political tension in Bengal, where verbal sparring between the TMC and BJP frequently escalates into sharp exchanges.
