Officials stated that the situation, which occurred around 9 p.m. on Sunday, was quickly brought under control.

On Sunday night, a delay in the departure of several trains at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) led to heavy crowding at platforms 12 and 13, officials said. However, they reassured the public that no stampede occurred and no injuries were reported.

The incident, which took place around 9 p.m., briefly raised concerns, as it reminded many of the tragic stampede at NDLS on February 15 that resulted in 18 deaths. Despite the large crowds, officials stated the situation was quickly brought under control.

“There was no stampede, just a heavy rush due to the delays. Once the trains departed, the situation improved,” said DCP (railway) KPS Malhotra.

According to the police, the delays affected the departure of four trains: the Shiv Ganga Express (originally scheduled for 8:05 p.m.), Jammu Rajdhani Express (9:25 p.m.), Lucknow Mail (10:00 p.m.), and Magadh Express (9:05 p.m.). Additionally, the Swatantrata Senani Express, set to depart at 9:15 p.m., was already occupying the platform, contributing to the congestion.

“Due to the combined effect of the delays, there was significant passenger buildup at platforms 12 and 13. Crowd control measures were implemented to prevent any incidents,” an officer stated. A Northern Railways PRO confirmed, “There was a heavy rush, but no stampede or stampede-like situation at NDLS.” An RPF official added, “We arrived on the platform as a precaution, but as the trains began to depart, we dispersed the crowd without any problems.”
